What is Watchmen about?
For a year now i been trying to read watchmen but im really busy universal comic book reader (Marvel, DC, Top Cow, Image) and well i love alan moores work but is hard for me to get into this particular book help me and give me some interstimg information because i want to know before the movie comes out
It's pretty complicated - there are lots of flashbacks and asides, there's a pirate story worked in, the book really demands a lot of your attention.
But, basically, the story takes place in a bleak alternate universe - there once was a group of superheroes in the 1950's - the Comedian, Silk Spectre, and a 2nd group in the 1970s, which included Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl, Silk Spectre II, etc.
Someone is going around eliminating some of the older heroes - who is it? The heroes of the 1970's gather together to investigate one of the murders, and a vast sinister scheme is uncovered. Could one of the other heroes be responsible? Who watches the Watchmen?
I can't say any more without giving too much away. Wikipedia has a more detailed summary, but it really needs to be read first-hand.
The art is simply gorgeous - symmetry, framing devices, movie-like pull-outs. It needs to be viewed as a comic, slowly, and savored...
